More than 100 genes tied to autism identified in large study

About 1 in 59 children in the US have been diagnosed with ASD, or Autism Spectrum Disorders. A research study that was released last month identified more than 100 genes associated with ASD. One of the researchers wrote, “With these identified genes we can begin to understand what brain changes underlie ASD and begin to consider novel treatment approaches.”

Students’ ‘Dream Jobs’ Out of Sync With Emerging Economy

In the PISA report released by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in December 2019, the “dream jobs” of teens in 79 countries are mostly 19th- or 20th-century jobs. In fact, the scope of their “dream jobs” has narrowed to about 10 jobs for half of the teens. Boys and low-income students were more likely to prefer jobs in danger of being automated in the next 15 years.

The learning effect of air quality in classrooms

New environmental studies are suggesting a relationship between air quality, heat and test scores. While we all understand that pollution can be bad for our health, new research is helping us understand how it affects our brains and learning.

Parents think teens spend too much time playing video games

A recent survey found that 86% of parents agreed or strongly agreed that their teens spend too much time playing video games. More than half reported that their teens spend more than three hours a day gaming, and half believe that gaming gets in the way of their family activities.
