Thinking about a PACE course? Read this!

We know that many TCK education consultants are working in relative isolation from other education consultants. Have you thought about taking a PACE course, but wondered what people who have taken the course really think?

When our leadership team met in August, we reviewed all of the course feedback for the previous year. Evaluation is important to us, because if we’re not truly meeting the needs of education consultants, we’re not achieving our goal as an organization.

After reviewing all of the feedback, our leaders decided to share this with you. We know that you have a limited amount of time and resources to invest into your professional development, so we want to share this information with you and encourage you to join us for a course. If you’re considering taking a PACE course, let this be your opportunity to share a virtual cup of coffee with other consultants who have taken the course before you.

Here is feedback about our “Introduction to Education Consulting in Cross-Cultural Settings” course. This course is offered all the time as a three-part independent study, and every January as a cohort along with other education consultants. (Registration will open in December!)

  • “The course was amazing. I found myself deeply engrossed in the readings. I know how much I don’t know and will appreciate taking other courses. I have three adult TCKs and have taught in several overseas venues. I found the course material helpful In processing my experiences.”
  • “This course has helped me a lot. It has given me a lot of good information and a variety of resources. I think it will make a big impact on my future role as an education consultant because I have been given a solid understanding of what makes up a TCK and many of the issues involved.”
  • “It has expanded my thinking and made me aware of many issues that I perhaps had some inkling about but couldn’t really define or comment on. I feel it has given me confidence in speaking about some cross-cultural issues I wouldn’t have been able to comment on before.”
  • “I have appreciated reading all the research, doing the assignments (very practical), and interacting with classmates. I think the biggest thing this course has done for me is giving me confidence that I DO have contributions that I can make to the families around me.”
  • “I am much more aware of the issue involved in dealing with educational and transition issues for agency families from a professional (not just a personal experience) perspective.”

Here is some feedback about our “Multilingualism” course.

  • “My understanding of language acquisition and multilingual issues from personal experience has been given a firmer foundation and backing by this course. I am pleased to say I was on the right wavelength, but now I can back my guidance and information with a course I have taken so I have more credence with those I serve.”
  • “I believe this course has given me new knowledge and insight into how languages are learned, as well as all the potential benefits and pitfalls of bilingualism that a family could face.”

Our newest course is “Child Development and Early Learning.” We heard from consultants that a refresher related to child development and early learning was needed in order to answer the questions of families with younger children. Additionally, knowledge about typical child development is critical in helping families discern whether or not “bumps in the road” related to learning are normal or might be indicators of special learning needs. One participant wrote:

“I really enjoyed the course–I appreciate all the various articles and resources we are exposed to, and are then able to share with our families we work with. Thank you!”

Finally, we wanted to share a few reviews of our “Special Educational Needs” course. We know that this is a critical area of education consulting!

  • “This course has given me more knowledge about special educational needs. Even though this was something I studied in college as part of an elementary education program, a lot has changed in almost 30 years, so it was good to get updated information and understanding.”
  • “It has helped me to think of my classroom experience and how to connect that with helping home school parents in a different setting.”
  • “This course helped me start looking into special education resources and offered great resources for getting me started.”

Come take a PACE course with us today!
