The Latest from PACE: Where We Are and Where We’re Heading

This week’s blog is an update for you, the education consultants who are served by PACE. For those of you who are newer to PACE, we hope that this gives you a good big picture of the services offered by PACE.

Courses

Our most popular course, and the prerequisite for every other course, is Introduction to Education Consulting in Cross-Cultural Settings. The course is broken into three sections in order to accommodate those who travel often and can’t commit to 12 weeks at once. We offer all three sections as independent studies; however, our favorite way for you to take the course is in a cohort format, which we offer every January. This format allows you to “travel” through the course week by week at the same time as other education consultants around the world, providing opportunities for you to learn from each other as well as the course materials. We believe in this so much that we discount the course for those taking it with the cohort. We’re willing to make sacrifices in order for you to have the best possible course experience!

You may wonder if this course is right for you if you’re an experienced MK/TCK education consultant. We think it is, and here’s why:

  • The average number of years of cross-cultural experience for those who have taken this course is 12 years. And we’ve consistently received positive feedback about the helpfulness of the course. We believe that this course has something to offer everyone.

  • Before you take any of our other, more specialized, courses, we want to make sure we’re all on the same page. The Intro course provides basic information across the broad spectrum of issues related to education consulting, and we don’t repeat ourselves when you go on to other courses. So when you take the Intro course, you’re starting your study in many areas that you can further through more PACE courses.

After you take the Introduction to Education Consulting in Cross-Cultural Settings course, you can take any course offered by PACE in any order.

Resources

We work hard to provide up-to-date articles and other resources related to education consulting for families serving cross-culturally. This means providing you with access to the classics in our field as well as new articles about the issues you’re facing with families right now.

These new articles are written by YOU, the many folks who participate in the PACE community. As we’ve gotten to know you through the courses and website, we’ve asked many of you to write articles related to your expertise for the greater MK/TCK education community. We’re so thankful to the many of you who have served your fellow consultants in this way!

Education Planning Course

Through our courses and other interactions with you, we heard your need for more pre-field preparation related to children’s’ education. So we developed a resource for you to use online with the families your organization is preparing to send to the field (or families making a transition on the field).

This course was developed solely to provide a tool for you to use in walking families through the process of educational planning. We provide training and support for you as long as you’re using the course, and we’re constantly adding and updating the course. Additionally, you can customize the course in order to have all of your organizational documents and other resources right there on the course site.

You can read more about the course here, and you can write us if you’re interested in the next Preview Week at EdPlanning@TCKconsultant.org.

Looking Ahead

We are always looking for new and better ways to help you in your work serving families. Here are some projects we’re working on:

  • Resources in a variety of formats, including e-books and workbooks to use with your families

  • Opportunities for consultants to meet together face to face (more info coming soon!)

What ideas for course topics, articles, or other resources do you have? In what area(s) do you feel that more resources and/or training is needed by MK/TCK education consultants?
