Level II Course Descriptions

Our Level II courses are offered in an online cohort format once per year. See below for dates for the 2023-2024 year.

Child Development and Early Learning (September 4-October 13, 2023)

*Prerequisite: Student must have completed or be simultaneously enrolled in Introduction to Education Consulting (Parts 1-3)

This six module course includes information and assignments related to the following topics:

  • The Importance of Play
  • Optimal Learning Environments in Early Childhood
  • Child Development Milestones
  • Teaching Strategies
  • Technology Pros and Cons
  • Reading Development
Course Details:
    • Students will need online access for approximately two hours per module (six modules) in order to download materials and interact with classmates
    • Coursework will take approximately three to four hours per module to complete
    • Course Facilitator: Debbi Clouser

Special Educational Needs (October 16-November 17, 2023)

*Prerequisite: Student must have completed or be simultaneously enrolled in Introduction to Education Consulting (Parts 1-3)

This five module course includes information and assignments related to the following topics:

      • Foundations of Special Needs Education
      • Foreign Language Learning
      • Educational Planning for Transitions
      • Educational Planning Across Environments
      • Interpersonal Skills and Relating to Families of Children with Special Needs
      • Strategies and Resources for Consultants and Families
Course Details:
  • Students will need online access for approximately two hours per module in order to download materials and interact with classmates
  • Coursework will take approximately three to four hours per module to complete

Interpersonal Skills for Consulting and Teamwork (November 20-December 15, 2023)

*Prerequisite: Student must have completed or be simultaneously enrolled in Introduction to Education Consulting (Parts 1-3)

This 4 module course includes information and assignments on these topics:

  • Verbal and Non-verbal Communication
  • Conversation and Listening Skills
  • Questioning, Exploring and Referring Skills
  • Working on a Team
Course Details:
  • Students will need online access for approximately two hours per module in order to download materials and interact with classmates
  • Coursework will take approximately three to four hours per module to complete

Basics of Home Education (January 8-February 16, 2024)

*Prerequisite: Student must have completed or be simultaneously enrolled in Introduction to Education Consulting (Parts 1-3)

This eight module course includes information and assignments related to the following topics:

  • Home Education Approaches
  • Family Dynamics of Home Education
  • Educational Planning and Home Education
  • Common Challenges of Home Education
  • Consulting regarding Common Challenges
Course Details:
  • Students will need online access for approximately two hours per module in order to download materials and interact with classmates
  • Coursework will take approximately three to four hours per module to complete

Coaching Parents in Education Planning (February 19-March 15, 2024)

*Prerequisite: Student must have completed or be simultaneously enrolled in Introduction to Education Consulting (Parts 1-3)

This four module course includes information and assignments related to the following topics:

  • Why it is important for families to plan before arrival on the field
  • Components of high-quality profiled education planning
Course Details:
  • Students will need online access for approximately two hours per module in order to download materials and interact with classmates
  • Coursework will take approximately three to four hours per module to complete
  • Not required for consultants leading families through “Education Planning for Families in Transition”

Educational Testing and Assessment (March 18-April 12, 2024)

*Prerequisite: Student must have completed or be simultaneously enrolled in Introduction to Education Consulting (Parts 1-3)

This four module course includes information and assignments related to the following topics:

  • Types of testing and assessment
  • How to interpret standardized test scores
  • Appropriate use of standardized testing with TCKs
Course Details:
  • Students will need online access for approximately two hours per module in order to download materials and interact with classmates
  • Coursework will take approximately three to four hours per module to complete

Multilingualism Issues (April 15-May 24, 2024)

*Prerequisite: Student must have completed or be simultaneously enrolled in Introduction to Education Consulting (Parts 1-3)

This six module course includes information and assignments related to the following topics:

  • First Language Acquisition and Growth
  • Second Language Acquisition
  • A Bilingual Family Environment
  • Levels of Language Acquisition & the Interface with Culture
  • Language Impairments
  • Supporting Families Using National Schools
Course Details:
  • Students will need online access for approximately two hours per module in order to download materials and interact with classmates
  • Coursework will take approximately three to four hours per module to complete
